No Particular Theme: The Work of Alfred Harris, Joseph Park, and Bruce Houston.
Saranac Art Projects is pleased to announce its current exhibition curated by Chris Bruce, Director, Museum of Art, Washington State University, is titled No Particular Theme; the Work of Alfred Harris, Joseph Park, and Bruce Houston. The exhibition will open March 5th and run through April 26th. The exhibition space is open Wednesday through Saturday 11:00 to 5:30.
Saranac Art Projects is a rotating non-profit exhibition space that is curated by different art professionals across the Northwest. Bruce states about the show, “It is work that gives me pleasure. Saranac provides a very special opportunity for the audience and for the curators to showcase artwork that might not otherwise be seen in more institutional settings. For me to be able to show work I simply enjoy, as opposed to having to justify by form or subject matter, is a treat. If I had to say, I suppose the main thing that holds these objects together is a sense of play.”
The exhibition includes paintings by Alfred Harris and Joseph Park with sculptures by Bruce Houston. Harris’ paintings are part of a series titled "Adriane’s Thread", where he utilizes Greek Mythology as a departure point for this work, "Adriane’s Thread refers to Greek myth where Adriane was the daughter of King Minos of Crete. She fell in love with Theseus and helped him navigate the labyrinth, which had a single path to the center.”
Joseph Park’s paintings are simple in imagery but complex in content. His technique and ability to move paint, color, and tones creates beautiful canvasses. Each painting reflects his knowledge of postmodern theory by combining imagery from movies, photographs, and historical moments. Bruce Houston, a sculptor from Southern California, makes pop objects and sculptures made from kitschy objects that range from cake decorations to play trucks to plastic toys.
