Saranac Art Projects in Spokane opens a new exhibition—The Essence of Touch, Works by Various Artists from the Collection of Wes Mills.
This exhibition of works on paper will open January 10th and run through February 23rd of 2008. The exhibition is curated by Wes Mills, includes Marc Baseman, Joseph Beuys, James Castle, Porfirio DiDonna, Roland Flexner, Sol Lewitt, Dale Leys, Agnes Martin, Ed Moses, Kerri Rosenstein, Cary Smith, Richard Tuttle, Roger Walker Pat Woodson, and Eugene VonBruenchenhein. Mr. Mills, an established artist who works appear in numerous collections across the world, has collected works on paper for the past fifteen years, befriending many of the artists in the exhibition.
This exhibition explores the nature of drawing and the sense of touch that is required to make a drawing. Mr. Mills has worked exclusively with drawing for the past twenty-five years of his career. These works, minimal in appearance, are complex studies of human nature, thought, and expression. Many of the artists in the exhibition are widely collected in museums and private collections worldwide. This Saranac Arts Project exhibition is an opportunity to look at works that are quiet and contemplative from the perspective of an artist who has explored touch through his own work.
